Types of Dogs Allowed in the Iditarod
Not all dogs are allowed to be in the Iditarod. Policy 11 of the Iditarod rules and policies states this: Only northern dog breeds suitable for arctic travel will be permitted to enter the race. "Northern breeds" will be determined by race officals. Some of the most commonly used sled dogs are shown below, along with some information about each dog.

Alaskan Husky
Life Expectancy: 10-15 years
Minimum Height: 20 inches
Maximum Height: 24 inches
Minimum Weight: 35pounds
Maximum Weight: 65 pounds
Siberian Husky
Life Expectancy: 11 years
Minimum Height: 20 inches
Maximum Height: 24 inches
